How Far Have We Come?

The theme of this contest was inspired by the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, allowing women the right to vote and in conjunction with the Ann Arbor League of Women Voters 2020 women’s suffrage movement commemoration, which is especially poignant this election year. We ask artists to examine the progress, or lack of it, not just of women but all humans who continue to be discriminated against.

The topic has become increasing more relevant these past couple months, and we want to encourage all photographers to speak up, enter their photos and show us what life currently looks like. While we are commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, it’s clear that the suffrage movement is not over. We are looking forward to seeing all of your powerful images and encourage you to write an artist statement as well as donate to the Ann Arbor Argus Museum, a non-profit in the original building in which Argus cameras were manufactured.
